Bruin running back rushed for three touchdowns in season-opening win over Hawai'i.

Running back Zach Charbonnet of the UCLA football team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for Aug. 23-29.

Charbonnet made the most of his UCLA debut Saturday, rushing for 106 yards and three touchdowns on just six first-half carries as the Bruins cruised to a 44-10 win versus Hawai'i at the Rose Bowl. Charbonnet, who starred at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif. before spending two seasons at the University of Michigan, scored UCLA's first touchdown of the season on a 21-yard scamper midway through the first quarter. He would add a 47-yard score and another 21-yarder to help his team to a 31-3 halftime advantage. Charbonnet's three-touchdown performance represents the first by a Bruin running back since Joshua Kelley accomplished the feat against Arizona State in 2019.

This is Charbonnet's first UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and of his career.
