LOS ANGELES โ€“ Five UCLA women's tennis student-athletes are set to begin the fall tournament season locally and in South Carolina starting Wednesday. Also, a number of current and former team members are in Redding, Calif. for an ITF event.

Abbey Forbes, the nation's No. 2 player, is the top seed in the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Mountย Pleasant, S.C. The junior gets underway Wednesday, when she squares off with Julia Adams of Furman. Play is scheduled to continue at the LTP Tennis Club through Oct. 10. Forbes is coming off a season in which she earned her second All-America selection for singles play in as many years. The Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year finished 24-3 in singles play, reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships singles tournament.

Also in action is the quartet of Ava Catanzarite, Taylor Johnson, Sasha Vagramov and Elise Wagle, which will travel across town to participate in the Women of Troy Invitational on the campus of USC. The hidden dual format will be utilized, with singles and doubles winners awarded at the conclusion of the event. Slated to join the Bruins at David X. The UCLA contingent will meet Arizona at 1 p.m. PT Friday, USC at 1 p.m. Saturday and LMU at 1 p.m. Sunday.

On the professional level, Elysia Bolton, Kimmi Hance and Vanessa Ong will test their mettle at Team Ascension's Pro Women's Open in Redding, Calif. Each is in the singles draw and Bolton is reuniting with Jada Hart on the doubles side. Former UCLA standout Catherine Harrison is in both fields. Hart will also play singles.
