The No. 6 UCLA men's volleyball team used a .437 hitting percentage, their second-highest of the season, to defeat Stanford in four sets in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match on Tuesday evening in Maples Pavilion. Scores of the contest were 35-37, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17.

Cole Ketrzynski led four Bruins in double-digit kills with 19 and added a career-best six aces. Ethan Champlin registered a career-high 18 kills while Austin Matautia chipped in with a season-best 14 spikes. Merrick McHenry totaled 10 kills and a career-best six block assists. Sam Kobrine was credited with a career-high 61 set assists in the win.

UCLA moved out to a 9-5 start to begin set one after an ace by Sam Kobrine. Stanford rallied to even the score at 12-all. The Bruins advanced to a 19-16 lead on a kill by Ian Parish. The Cardinal came back to level the score at 24-each and fought off 11 UCLA set points to earn a 35-37 win. Each team hit over .400 for the set.

The Bruins grabbed an 8-5 edge in set two after a McHenry / Ketrzynski block. Stanford closed to 13-12 before UCLA answered with a couple of Champlin kills. Another Champlin swing put the Bruins in charge at 17-13. A Ketrzynski ace made it 19-14. McHenry followed with an ace for a 23-18 lead. Kills from Matautia and Ketrzynski ended the set for a 25-21 win.

UCLA used a Champlin kill to take a 7-4 advantage in set three. The Bruins kept the heat on the Cardinal and led 11-6 after a Matautia spike. The lead grew to 16-8 on a Ketrzynski kill. A Champlin swing made it 21-12. Sam Burgi came on to serve the Bruins to set point and a Ketrzynski kill handed the visitors the set for a 25-17 win.

After Stanford grabbed a 3-5 lead in set four, a Parish kill sent Ketrzynski to the service line. The result was an 8-0 Bruin run which included three aces by the sophomore and a 11-5 lead. A Matautia kill left UCLA in front 15-9. Burgi's ace put UCLA up 20-11 and a Matautia kill ended the set at 25-17.

The Bruins, who upped their record to 10-4 with the victory, out blocked the Cardinal 8.5 to 3.0 and recorded 12 aces, one off of their season-high in that category.
