Men Fifth, Women 10th at Pac-12 Cross Country Championships

University Place, Wash. – UCLA Cross Country opened its postseason campaign at the Pac-12 Championships on Friday, with the men's squad taking fifth place and the women finishing 10th in the team standings.
Freshman Anthony Stone was the lead runner for the UCLA men, finishing the 8k course in 23:40.7 in his postseason debut. Redshirt freshman Peter Herold continued his strong 2021 campaign, taking 32nd overall to finish as the Bruins' second runner on the day. Freshman Jake Parker (24:04.5) and junior Darius Riley (24:07) went 37-38, respectively. Junior Munir Kabbara wrapped UCLA's scoring five with a 42nd-place finish (24:33.6).
Redshirt freshman Marcus Mota took 49th with a time of 24:52.2. Freshmen Michael Mireles (24:52.8) and Ronan McMahon-Staggs (25:21.4) rounded out the Bruins' lineup in 50th and 55th place, respectively. UCLA ran six true or redshirt freshmen in its lineup.
The women's 6k saw the Bruins take 10th place overall. UCLA was experienced up front with senior Kira Loren (21:40.30) and junior Gwyn George (21:40.00) going 66-67, respectively. Junior Annabelle Werner was UCLA's third runner in 75th place 21:54.50, while freshman Ashley Johnson crossed in 80th with a time of 22:17.60. Redshirt freshman Claire Selleck was the Bruins' fifth scoring runner, taking 86th place with a time of 22:53.20.
Freshman Savannah Scriven (23:01.60) and redshirt freshman Sophia Hoelzel (23:51) finished in 88th and 90th place, respectively. UCLA showed its youth on the women's side, running four freshman runners in the 6k.
