Fishel, Pederson Receive Pac-12 Honors

UCLA's Mia Fishel and Jacey Pederson have been awarded Pac-12 weekly honors as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Fishel, a sophomore forward from San Diego, Calif., had a hand in four of UCLA's five goals this weekend. Fishel recorded two goals and one assist and also drew the penalty kick that resulted in the game-winning goal against Oregon State in overtime. Against No. 20 Oregon on Mar. 5, she scored in the 70th minute to put UCLA ahead 2-0 and assisted on the game's third goal six minutes later to make it 3-0. Against Oregon State on Mar. 7, Fishel scored the game's first goal less than a minute before halftime, and in the overtime period, she made a dangerous run in the box and was fouled, drawing the game-winning penalty kick. Fishel now leads the team in scoring with nine points and is tied for the team lead in goals scored with four. She has scored a goal in each of UCLA's last three games.
Pederson, a redshirt senior defender from Palo Alto, Calif., totaled 179 minutes in a pair of Bruin victories this weekend. She played the full 90 as UCLA shut out Oregon, 3-0, on Mar. 5, the Bruins' third shutout of the year. Against Oregon State on Mar. 7, she played 89 minutes in the 2-1 overtime victory. Pederson helped limit Oregon State to just two shots on goal in the match and six shots overall. She has started every game this season after missing the last year and a half while recovering from an ACL injury.
This is the first Pac-12 weekly award for both Bruin players.
