Bruins Drop Game Two to Stanford, 11-6

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 23 Stanford scored six runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in an 11-6 victory over No. 17 UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Sunken Diamond.
The Bruins (16-11, 5-6 Pac-12) responded by scoring in three consecutive innings starting in the second to get within two runs at 8-6, but that was as close as they would get as Stanford (19-5, 6-2) went on to add single runs in three of the next four frames.
Three separate Bruins had multiple hits on Saturday, including a 3-4 performance from junior shortstop Matt McLain. Sophomore first baseman JT Schwartz (2-4, two runs) and senior left fielder Kyle Cuellar (2-4, two RBIs) joined him in the multi-hit club.
Junior second baseman Mikey Perez was also key on the offensive side, hitting a no-doubt two-run home run to cap a three-spot in the third inning that temporarily brought the Bruins within two runs.
Stanford was led by Nick Brueser, who finished 3-4 with a pair of solo home runs. Eight of nine Cardinal starters finished with a hit.
Third baseman Drew Bowser landed the big blow in Stanford's first-inning rally, hitting a three-run homer as part of the six-spot. The first five batters of that inning reached via base hits.
UCLA used eight pitchers in the contest. Junior southpaw Daniel Colwell had a solid two-inning relief effort, allowing just a single unearned run and no hits. Senior righty Adrian Chaidez struck out back-to-back batters to stand two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth.
The Bruins wrap up the series in Stanford on Sunday afternoon starting at 1:05 p.m. PT.
