Second-Half Surge Sends UCLA to 4-0 Win over WSU
April 02, 2021 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES โ After a scoreless first half, No. 5 UCLA scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half and powered past No. 21 Washington State, 4-0. Freshman Reilyn Turner recorded her second career brace, and Mia Fishel and Sunshine Fontes each added a goal and an assist.
The first half of play was a defensive affair, with Karina Rodriguez's block of an Elyse Bennett shot in the 17th minute providing the biggest highlight.
But the Bruins didn't take long to get going in the second half. Just one minute in, Fishel scored the go-ahead goal, heading in a cross by Delanie Sheehan for her fifth goal of the season. The dust had barely settled before UCLA struck again. A cross by Kaila Novak in front of the goal was sent to Turner on the far post, and Turner one-timed it into the back of the net to make it a quick 2-0 at 49:24.
What a run and cross by @DelanieSheehan to @miafishel10 for the go-ahead goal!

Turner scored her second goal at 59:48, taking a Fontes pass just outside the box and sliding in a shot past a Cougar defender and beyond the reach of goalkeeper Marissa Zucchetto. The goal was Turner's team-leading seventh of the year. Fontes finished the scoring in the 80th minute, banging a shot far post from the edge of the box for her fifth goal.
SHE CANNOT BE STOPPED. @reilynturner scores her second of the game!

Bruin goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy earned her sixth shutout of the season and made two saves on Bennett in the final 10 minutes, as well as another big stop on Margie Detrizio in the 89th to keep the Cougars off the board.
UCLA (9-1-1, 6-1-0 in the Pac-12) will wrap up its home schedule on Sunday, Apr. 4 at 2pm against Washington, while the Cougars (5-2-1, 1-1-1) will play at USC.
