LOS ANGELES - Senior Rachel Garcia struck out five in a complete-game, three-hit shutout, while the second-ranked Bruins recorded 12 hits, as UCLA posted a 4-0 victory over Stanford on Friday at Easton Stadium.
Garcia (10-0) had 1-2-3 innings in the second, third, fourth and sixth, fanning two in the third, with the only other base runner allowed on a walk.
A quintet of Bruins, juniors Aaliyah Jordan and Briana Perez, sophomore Anna Vines and freshmen Maya Brady and Thessa Malau'ulu, all had two-hit games.
UCLA (35-3, 14-2 Pac-12) scored a pair in the second. Brady led off with a single and was at third with one out when freshman Alyssa Garcia singled up the middle to make it 1-0. After a fielder's choice saw Malau'ulu reach first and advance to third on a Stanford (29-15, 8-8 Pac-12) error, sophomore Kelli Godin singled to score Malau'ulu.
In the fourth, Malau'ulu singled with one out, moved to second on a grounder and scored one batter later on a Perez single to make it 3-0.
Jordan left the yard in the sixth, her sixth home run of the season, to increase the lead to four.
The Bruins and the Cardinal play a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is at 2 p.m., and will air live on Pac-12 Network, with a free audio stream on UCLABruins.com.
