Bruins Return to Seattle, Albuquerque for Split Squad Weekend

UCLA continues its indoor season at the Husky Classic and Don Kirby Invite.

LOS ANGELES – UCLA Track & Field continues its 2022 indoor campaign with trips to the Husky Classic and Don Kirby Invitational in Seattle, Wash., and Albuquerque, N.M., respectively. The Bruins' distance runners are headed to Seattle and the remaining track athletes and field team are headed to Albuquerque.
 
This is the second time this season the Bruins have split squads to the aforementioned locations. Earlier in the year, the team competed at the UW Invite (Jan. 29) and UNM Team Open (Jan. 29) in Seattle and Albuquerque, respectively.

Last Time Out – Don Kirby Invite / Husky Classic
The Bruins last competed at the Don Kirby Invite and Husky Classic on the weekend of Friday, Feb. 14, 2020. It was an historic weekend for the Bruin sprinters in Albuquerque, as the women's 4x400m relay squad (Shae Anderson, Catherine Leger, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, and Meleni Rodney) ran 3:33.98 for the second-fastest indoor time in program history. Anderson also won the individual 400m with a lifetime-best time of 52.06, the fastest indoor time in program history. In Seattle, Colin Burke was third overall in the men's 5000m with a time of 13:47.77, the second-fastest time in UCLA indoor history. Christina Rice excelled in the women's 5000m, finishing fourth overall at 16:16.84, the second-fastest indoor time in program history to that point.
 
Meet Recap – Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge (Feb. 4-5)
The Bruins traveled to New York City for the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge, a two-day meet kicking off on Friday, Feb. 4. Friday's competition was highlighted by UCLA's performance in the women's distance medley relay (DMR), as Gwyn George, Kate Jendrezak, Ashley Johnson, and Mia Kane combined for a time of 11:29.37 and fifth place overall. The quartet now ranks 10th on UCLA's all-time list in the event. Freshman Syndey Johnson impressed in her first collegiate pentathlon, finishing third overall with 3,712 points, the seventh-best performance in UCLA history. Kane went on to finish ninth in the women's mile, clocking a time of 4:51.63 in her first individual collegiate event. Myles Misener-Daley secured a third-place finish in the men's 200m with a time of 21.72. Lyvante Su'emai was fifth in the women's weight throw, going 14.76m (48-05.25).

Next Meet – Pac-12 Challenge (Feb. 25-26)
The final regular season indoor meet on the 2022 schedule is the Pac-12 Challenge in Seattle, Wash. The two-day competition is set to kick off on Friday, Feb. 25 and will feature various Pac-12 teams.
