Women's Soccer

Senior tallied four goals in two games for women's soccer team.

Midfielder Sunshine Fontes of the UCLA women's soccer team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for Aug. 22-28.

Fontes, a senior from Wahiawa, Hawaii, totaled four goals, two game-winning goals and eight points in two shutout wins as No. 6 UCLA improved to 3-0 to start the season. Fontes recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career, knocking in three goals in the Bruins' 6-0 win over CSUN on Aug. 25. The hat trick was the 28th in program history, and she became the 21st Bruin player to tally three or more goals in a game. Three days later, Fontes scored the game-winner at Santa Clara on Aug. 28, scoring in the 12th minute to provide the only offense necessary for the Bruin win.

This is Fontes's first UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and her career.

Also nominated: Nate Crockford, M. Soccer; élan McCall, W. Volleyball.
