October 10, 2022 | Women's Basketball
MADRID – UCLA alumna Rebekah Gardner was named MVP of the Supercopa LF Endesa de Vitoria-Gasteiz after helping lead Spar Girona to a championship win on Oct. 9. Spar Girona defeated Valencia 70-65 in the Supercopa finals Sunday behind a 13-point performance from Gardner en route to the win.
Gardner scored over half of her points from the line in the Supercopa championship, sinking 7-of-7 free throws in the game. With ice in her veins, Gardner made key free throws late in the contest. Trailing 64-65 with less than a minute and a half left in the game, Gardner converted an and-one to put her team up by two. Gardner found herself at the line again with 28 seconds on the clock and nailed two shots to put her team up four, all but sealing the victory for Spar Girona. She added an assist and a steal in 17 minutes of play.
The former Bruin player is averaging 14.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in just under 20 minutes per game with her Catalan team this season.
Spar Girona will begin competing in the women's Euroleague on Oct. 12 and Oct. 19 against the French women's basketball club ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq.
