LOS ANGELES -- No. 2 UCLA (22-2, 2-1 MPSF WEST) advanced to the 2022 MPSF Championship semifinals with a 25-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson (9-7, 2-3 MPSF EAST) on Friday afternoon at USC's Uytengsu Aquatics Center. UCLA improved 1-0 all-time in the series history against the Presidents.A total of 13 different Bruins scored in the game, paced by a career-high four goals from junior Hayden Nightingale and freshman Gray Carson. Both Nightingale (seven points, three assists) and Carson (six points, two assists) also tallied career-bests in total points.
Senior Bernardo Maurizi got the start in the cage and played the first quarter, pitching a shutout while recording one save. Junior Garret Griggs played the final three quarters, allowing one goal while registering 10 saves.
Chris Edwards scored the only goal for the Presidents while Caine Dusza had four saves while surrendering 19 goals to UCLA in the first three quarters. Isaac Kay tended the cage for W&J in the fourth period, tallying two stops while allowing six scores.
UCLA led 12-0 at halftime and scored the first 16 goals of the contest before Edwards' goal at the 3:09 mark of the third period. The Bruins would respond with a 9-0 scoring run to end the game to provide the 25-1 final.
Six other Bruins scored multiple goals (two) that included seniors Gabe Discipulo, Andy Rodgers, Jack Larsen and Max Berg, sophomore Gianpiero Di Martire, and freshan Noah Rowe.
UP NEXT
The Bruins will take on the hosts, No. 3 USC, tomorrow in the second semifinal at 2:45 p.m. PT at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
