DALLAS (SMU) – UCLA's Zach Charbonnet was named on Tuesday by The PwC SMU Athletic Forum as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2022 Doak Walker National Collegiate Running Back Award.

Charbonnet leads the nation in all-purpose yards (171.0 per game), rates second in the nation in average rushing yards per carry (7.25) and is ranked fourth in the nation in rushing yards per game (137.8). All three figures place him at the top of the Pac-12 Conference listings. Charbonnet is 12th nationally in rushing yards (1,240) and 13th in the country in rushing touchdowns (13).

Earlier this season against Arizona, Charbonnet became the ninth UCLA rusher to record back-to-back 1,000 yards seasons. He is just the second player in UCLA history to record at least 150 yards rushing over three straight games (also Karim Abdul-Jabbar in 1995). Charbonnet has seven 100-yard rushing games this season and has a chance to equal Johnathan Franklin's school record mark of nine. His 14 career 100-yard rushing games as a Bruin rate sixth on the all-time school list.

Finalists for the 2022 Doak Walker Award will be announced Nov. 29 and the winner will be unveiled live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8. The formal presentation of the award will take place on the SMU campus at the annual banquet scheduled for Feb. 17, 2023. Other semifinalists include: Israel Abanikanda, Pitt; Chase Brown, Illinois; Blake Corum, Michigan; Mohamed Ibrahim, Minnesota; Quinshon Judkins, Ole Miss; DeWayne McBride, UAB; Kendre Miller, TCU, Bijan Robinson, Texas; Deuce Vaughn, Kansas State.

The Doak Walker Award presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum has been awarded to the nation's top running back since 1990. For the first time, the award has also recognized a national running back of the week this season. A select 20-person committee from the award's full voting body of media and past winners has chosen the weekly national running back of the week recipient.
