December 12, 2022 | Men's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO – UCLA guard Dylan Andrews has earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors for the first time this season, as announced on Monday by the Pac-12 Conference office.
Andrews, a 6-foot-2 freshman guard from Gardena, Calif., scored 11 points and totaled six assists (with no turnovers) in UCLA's 87-64 victory against Denver on Saturday. He has become the second Bruins' freshman in the past three weeks to have been named the league's freshman of the week. Amari Bailey was honored with the conference's freshman award the past two weeks (Nov. 28 and Dec. 5).
Andrews shot 5-for-10 from the field in Saturday's win, the Bruins' only game of the week. He totaled four rebounds in the non-conference game, as UCLA improved its overall record to 8-2 and recorded its fifth consecutive win.
Through his first 10 collegiate games, Andrews has averaged 3.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His 11 points and six assists last Saturday marked season highs.
UCLA has entered the week ranked No. 14 in the USA Today Sports Coaches poll and No. 16 in the Associated Press (AP) poll. The Bruins return to action at No. 20/17 Maryland (8-2) on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Game time at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Md., is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT (9 p.m. ET).
In addition, UCLA will play at Madison Square Garden in New York this Saturday against No. 13 Kentucky (7-2).
UCLA's game at Maryland will be nationally televised on FS1, with Jason Benetti and Bill Rafterty on the call. The Bruins' game on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, versus Kentucky, will be nationally televised on CBS.
