Bruins Wrap Weekend with Four Top-10 Program Marks

Lifetime-best marks and four program top-10 performances highlighted the Bruins' final day of action at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

The women's mile in Seattle saw Gwyn George lead the way, posting a lifetime-best time of 4:44.61 for the fifth-fastest indoor mile in UCLA history and the fastest time by a Bruin woman in the event since Kelsey Smith went 4:41.73 in Feb. 2014. Freshman Mia Kane also dropped her mile PR on Saturday, clocking a time of 4:51.18.

Peter Herold was the Bruins' top finisher in the men's mile at 11th place overall, flying to a lifetime-best time of 4:01.75 to position himself sixth on UCLA's all-time list in the event. Anthony Stone finished 25th and just missed a PR with a mark of 4:03.45. Mason Ratkovich (4:07.42) and Munir Kabbara (4:10.27) also secured PRs in Seattle.

Rose Pittman also toed the line for the Bruins at the Husky Classic, finishing 11th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:07.65. Pittman is now the seventh-fastest performer in UCLA history in the event.

UCLA's non-distance runners finished up their weekend in Albuquerque, with Ismail Turner impressing in the men's 400m with an indoor-best time of 46.85. Turner is now tied for fourth all-time in program indoor history in the event and posted the fastest time by a Bruin man in the event since Brandon Johnson's 46.40 performance in Feb. 2006. Maddy Doane was 12th in the women's competition with a time of 55.72.

Freshman thrower Lyvante Su'emai continued her strong weekend, taking fifth place in the shot put with a collegiate-best mark of 15.50m (50-10.25). On Friday, Su'emai posted a lifetime-best mark of 18.05m (59-02.75) in the weight throw, which tied for ninth all-time in UCLA history in the event.

The UCLA women capped the day in Albuquerque with a victory in the 4x400m relay, as the quartet of Kate Jendrezak, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, Catherine Leger, and Doane clocked a time of 3:38.36 for the win. The Bruins were over four seconds clear of their closest challenger, Utah (3:42.77).

The Bruins' final regular season meet of the 2022 indoor season is the Pac-12 Challenge from Feb. 25-26. Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash., will play host to a group of Pac-12 institutions ahead of the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12).
