Women's Tennis Blanks Arizona in Pac-12 Home Opener

LOS ANGELES – The No. 14 UCLA women's tennis team earned its third shutout in as many Pac-12 matches Friday, defeating No. 51 Arizona by a 4-0 score at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Vanessa Ong clinched the win for the Bruins (7-3, 3-0 Pac-12). Elysia Bolton and Kimmi Hance were also victorious in singles play. Each was also triumphant in doubles play. The Wildcats (10-5, 1-2) took two singles first sets, but both matches were left unfinished.
The combination of Hance and Sasha Vagramov turned in its fifth win of dual-match play without a loss, cruising past Midori Castillo-Meza and Belen Nevenhoven for a 6-0 result to start doubles play. Hance and Vagramov have a 7-1 record overall. The opening point was ultimately seized on Court 2, where Bolton and Ong teamed up for the first time this year to hand Kristen Prelle and Lexi Ryngler a 6-3 loss.
No. 69 Bolton was first off the singles courts, winning her third consecutive decision and fifth in six during the dual-match portion of the schedule. Her 6-1, 6-2 win doubled the UCLA lead.
Next to finish was No. 115 Hance, who picked up her sixth straight-set victory in as many matches, besting Castillo-Meza by a 6-3, 6-3 margin on Court 4 to make it 3-0.
With No. 42 Abbey Forbes nearing a win of her own, Ong closed out Iglupas on Court 6, 6-2, 6-4. Each of Ong's two dual-match singles victories this season has sealed an overall win. She has logged four clinchers in her career.
The Bruins will play the second of back-to-back home conference matches Saturday, when No. 30 Arizona State visits LATC. First serve is set for 12 p.m. PT.
