LOS ANGELESย --ย No. 2 UCLA (21-2, 3-1 MPSF) dropped its first league game and its second of the year to No. 1 Stanford (14-1, 2-0 MPSF), 11-9, on Saturday afternoonย at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. Stanford improved to 55-37 all-time against the Bruins.
A total of six Bruins scored in the contest, led by the trio of freshman Molly Renner, senior Val Ayala, and junior Abbi Hill,ย that each scored twice against the Cardinal.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Georgia Phillips got the start in the cage and went the distance, recording seven saves while allowing 11 goals.
Ryann Neushul, Sophie Wallace, and Makenzie Fischer led Stanford, each registering a hat trick.
PERIOD ONE
>ย Stanford outscored UCLA 3-2ย in the opening period.
> Renner opened the scoring with a goal from the front courtย (6:10).
> After the Cardinal scored (4:01), Ayala gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead with a power play goalย (3:32).
> Stanford scored the final two goals of the period (0:49 and 0:02) to take a 3-2 lead into the second period.

PERIOD TWO
> Stanford outscored UCLA 3-2 in the second period.
> Renner scored her second of the game to open the scoring in theย second (6:17) on a power playย to tie it at 3-3.
> After another score from Stanford (4:30), redshirt senior Maddie Musselman would tie it again at 4-4 with a power play goal (4:08).
> The Cardinal would again score the final two goals of the period (1:42 and 0:53).
> Stanford led 6-4ย at the break.

PERIOD THREE
> The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in the third period.
> Senior Katrina Drakeย opened the scoring in the third (4:24) with a strike from the front court.
> Stanford enjoyed its largest lead of three goals at 8-5 after back-to-back goalsย (4:06 and 1:45).
> Hill scored her first of the gameย (1:22) to end the scoring in the third with the Cardinal leading 8-6.
PERIOD FOUR
> Both teams battled to a 3-3 draw in the fourth periodย to provide the 11-9 final score.
> UCLA opened the scoring in the fourth with back-to-back goals to tie the score at 8-8. Freshman Emma Lineback scored first (7:37) and Ayala added her second at the 6:32 mark.
> Stanford reeled off two straight goals (5:20 and 4:28) to build a 10-8 lead.
> Hill's second goal of the game (4:13) gave the Bruins some hope, but Fischer added an insurance run (2:30) to provide the 11-9 final.
