Bruins Stay Local for Chris Rinne Twilight

LOS ANGELES โ UCLA Track & Field is set to continue its 2022 outdoor campaign with a trip to Riverside for the Chris Rinne Twilight. The one-day competition will take place on Friday, April 22.

Meet Information โ Chris Rinne Twilight
The Bruins had a busy schedule of competitions last week, with contingents of the team represented at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, and Beach Invite.

The Bruins took the trip to Mt. San Antonio College for the historic Mt. SAC Relays, which took place from April 13-16. The women's and men's 4x400m relay squads capped the weekend with season-best performances, going 3:32.46 and 3:05.21, respectively. Shae Anderson made her season debut in the 400m, going 52.03 to position her tied for 10th in the nation in the event. Lyvante Su'emai continued her strong 2022 campaign, launching a lifetime-best effort in the discus with a mark of 55.43m (181-10). She currently ranks 18th in the country in the event and third among freshmen.

UCLA also sent a contingent to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. There, junior Mason Ratkovich picked up a pair of lifetime-best performances, going 1:51.24 in the 800m and 3:48.63 in the 1500m. Sophomore Ashley Johnson secured her third-straight PR in the 1500m, going 4:26.81 for her first-career sub-4:30 performance.

Long Beach State played host to the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Beach Invite. Lydia Liu took 13th place in the women's discus competition at Pacific Coast, going 48.29m (158-5) on the day. Aidan Elbettar and Ugonna Ikejiofor went 10-11 in the men's discus at the Beach Invite, going 54.84m (179-11) and 54.59m (179-1), respectively.

Turner Impresses at Mt. SAC
Junior sprinter Ismail Turner put together a strong weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend in Walnut, Calif. The San Diego native notched a season-best time in the 400m, going 45.95 to finish third in the elite field. It was the second sub-46 performance of Turner's career, as he notched a lifetime-best time of 45.64 in the event at the 2021 NCAA West Prelims. Turner followed his individual performance with a sub-46 leg to lead off the Bruins' 4x400m relay effort. Turner, Myles Misener-Daley, Zaylon Thomas, and Cameron Reynolds combined to 3:05.21 for a season-best time in the relay.

McFall Competes Against Record-Holder
Senior thrower Lauren McFall earned an entry into the javelin competition at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend, which allowed her to compete against Kara Winger, a professional thrower and the current American record-holder in the javelin (66.67m, 218-8.75). Winger won the javelin competition at Mt. SAC while McFall went 47.17m (154-9) for a season-best mark and seventh place overall.
