Bruins Edged in Walk-Off Decision at Washington, 4-3
May 08, 2022 | Baseball
Seattle โ Washington scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim a walk-off 4-3 win over No. 8 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at Husky Ballpark.
The Bruins (30-17, 14-10 Pac-12) led off the game with back-to-back homers from Cody Schrier and Jake Palmer, and never trailed until Cam Clayton's walk-off single in the last of the ninth for Washington (21-24, 11-16).
Trailing by one heading into the bottom of the ninth, Washington got into business with a leadoff double from Michael Snyder.
UCLA closer Alonzo Tredwell sandwiched a walk with a pop-up and a strikeout to get the Huskies down to their last out, but the hosts then reeled off back-to-back RBI singles to plate the game-tying and game-winning runs, respectively.
Tredwell had retired eight batters in a row prior to the ninth inning. He entered the game after a solo homer from UW's Will Simpson made it 3-2 in the sixth inning.
Redshirt sophomore Kelly Austin drew the start for the Bruins, yielding one earned run on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.
UCLA finishes up a season-long five-game road trip on Tuesday night, heading to Orange County for a 6:00 p.m. PT matchup at Cal State Fullerton.
