UCLA's Olivia Hay to Compete for New Zealand's U-23 Team

July 20, 2022 | Women's Rowing

Rising sophomore Olivia Hay of the UCLA women's rowing team has been named to New Zealand's Under 23 National Team this month and will compete at the upcoming World Rowing Championships in Italy.

Hay, who rowed six seat in the Bruins' varsity eight (V8+) crew in 2022, will race in the women's 4x for New Zealand at the World Championships, set to take place from July 25-30 in Varese, Italy.

Hailing from Auckland (New Zealand), Hay attended Glendowie College prior to enrolling at UCLA. She served as the rowing team captain in 2019 and was named the "rower of the year" in 2018 and 2019, earning a gold medal at the Aon Maadi Cup in 2019.

The World Rowing Championships (Under 23) serve as a premier event for rowers under the age of 23 and offers 22 total events.

Hay will be one of two UCLA rowing athletes competing in this month's U-23 Championships, along with rising senior Ellen Ulitsky (competing for the United States).
