For the second week in a row, UCLA's Selena Harris has been named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week, earning the award after posting the fourth-highest all-around total in the nation this season, a 39.725.
Harris placed first or second on every event at the Wasatch Classic and tied for first in the all-around with teammate Jordan Chiles. Harris won the uneven bars with a near-perfect 9.975 and tied for first on balance beam with a 9.925. She also placed second on vault with a 9.900 and floor exercise with a 9.925. All of her marks were career-bests, and they helped lead UCLA to season-high team scores on bars and beam (49.5) and floor (49.6). UCLA's meet-winning team total of 197.850 was the Bruins' highest away total since 2019. Harris is averaging 39.613 in two meets this season and enters the week ranked No. 6 in the all-around, No. 9 on bars, No. 11 on vault and No. 18 on floor. She has scored 9.9 or higher on seven of her eight routines this season.
Joining Harris as Pac-12 weekly award-winners were Oregon State's Jade Carey (Gymnast of the Week), Utah's Kara Eaker (Specialist of the Week) and Stanford's Ira Alexeeva (Coaches Choice).
No. 4 UCLA will open Pac-12 play on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Washington at 2pm PT.
