LOS ANGELES -- The MPSF announced on Tuesday that freshman Lily Gess (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) was named the MPSF/S&R Sport Newcomer of the Week.

Gess tallied a season-high five points with the first hat trick of her collegiate career in the Bruins' only countable game at the California Cup, a 21-7 win over No. 11 UC Davis (Jan. 28). She scored her three goals on just three shots and also contributed two assists and two steals in the win over the Aggies.

This is the first career MPSF honor for Gess.
