LOS ANGELES – UCLA Women's Basketball (25-9) secured hosting privileges as a top-four seed for the first and second rounds of the 2023 March Madness as announced by the NCAA during its selection show on ESPN Sunday.
The Bruins earned a No. 4 seed and will take on No. 13-seed Sacramento State (25-7) in the first round of the tournament on Saturday, Mar. 18, inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The Hornets were an automatic qualifier for the tournament with their win in the Big Sky Championship on Wednesday, Mar. 8 (W vs. Northern Arizona, 76-63).
The winner of Saturday's matchup will take on the winner of No. 5-seed Oklahoma (25-6) and No. 12-seed Portland (23-8) on Monday, Mar. 20.
TV assignments and tip-off times will be released on Monday, Mar. 13.
The Bruins return to March Madness after missing the 2022 NCAA Tournament; UCLA made a run to the semifinals of the WNIT during 2021-22 postseason play. The Bruins have now earned a spot in the top 68 six times in the last seven tournaments; UCLA has made four Sweet 16 appearances under Cori Close.
In the 2023 Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament, UCLA defeated No. 1 Stanford in the semifinals, 69-65. The Bruins outscored the top-seeded Cardinal 29-15 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Pac-12 foe. UCLA fell to No. 7-seed Washington State in the finals of the tournament, 65-61.
Three Bruins – Charisma Osborne, Emily Bessoir and Kiki Rice – earned All-Tournament Team honors with their performances in Las Vegas, Nev., during UCLA's four-game run to the championship. Osborne was named All-Pac-12 for the regular season, and Rice joined Londynn Jones as UCLA's members of the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
