David and McHenry Tabbed for Player of Week Honors

Men's Volleyball

Bruins play MPSF matches at Stanford on Friday and Saturday.

Redshirt junior middle blocker Merrick McHenry and sophomore opposite Ido David each garnered Player of the Week honors on Monday for their play in the OUTRIGGER Hotels Invitational over the weekend in Honolulu. David was selected as the Molten / Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Offensive Player of the Week. McHenry was named offtheblockblog.com's National Co-Middle Attacker of the Week. Both players were chosen for the All-Tournament Team at the OUTRIGGER.
 
McHenry hit .633 for the week and added 12 blocks. In a five-set win over Penn State, he registered nine kills, three aces, six digs and seven blocks. His six digs in that match were a career-best while his six block assists tied his season-high mark. McHenry recorded 11 kills, a couple of block solos and three block assists in a loss to No. 1 Hawai'i. He averaged 1.2 blocks for the week.
 
David hit .384 for the week and led UCLA's attack versus both Penn State and Hawai'i with a season-high tying 21 kills in each contest. He hit .390 in the Bruins' win over the Nittany Lions on a season-high 41 swings and recorded his second career block solo among his four blocks on the night. Against top-ranked Hawai'i, he produced a .325 attack percentage on 40 attempts. For those two matches, he averaged 5.2 points per set.
 
The Bruins (4-0 in MPSF) return to action in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) this week with a pair of road matches at No. 10 Stanford (2-2) on Mar. 17 and 18. UCLA also has MPSF series matches remaining on the schedule with No. 5 Grand Canyon (5-1, Mar. 31 & Apr. 1), No. 7 Pepperdine (4-2, Apr. 13 & 15) and No. 11 USC (1-5, Apr. 6 & 8).
