UCLA's Jordan Chiles and Selena Harris were selected as the Pac-12 Gymnast and Freshman/Newcomer of the Week, respectively. The Bruin duo went 1-2 in the all-around in the Bruins' win over Iowa State, with Chiles scoring a career-best 39.900 and Harris posting a new career-high with a 39.750.
Chiles wins her second consecutive and fifth Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honor of the season after posting the highest all-around score in the nation this season. Her 39.900 also ranks as the fifth-highest score of all-time and the second-highest by a Bruin. Additionally, the 2020 Olympic and 2022 World medalist recorded her second consecutive perfect 10 on uneven bars. Chiles won every event, tying for first on vault (9.975) and beam (9.950) and winning bars (10.0) and floor (9.975). She has scored 9.9 or higher on 26 out of her last 28 routines and 9.95 or higher on 21 of those 28 and now ranks No. 2 in the nation in the all-around, No. 1 on bars, No. 3 on vault, No. 4 on floor and No. 11 on beam.
Harris captures her Pac-12 record-tying sixth Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week award after recording career-highs on vault (9.975), beam (9.950), floor (9.925) and all-around (39.75) in the regular season finale. She placed first or second on every event, tying for first on vault and beam and placing second in the all-around and tying for second on bars and floor. Harris has hit all 39 routines she has competed this season and has scored 39.5 or higher in every all-around attempt (nine meets). She enters the week ranked No. 5 in the nation in the all-around – the only freshman ranked in the Top 10 – and is No. 7 on beam, No. 10 on vault and No. 12 on bars.
The Bruin duo's scores helped UCLA record a season-high 198.275, the sixth-highest team score in school history. UCLA also set a new season-high on vault (49.475) and tied its season-high on beam (49.625).
Joining them as Pac-12 weekly award-winners are California's Mya Lauzon (Specialist of the Week) and Nevaeh DeSouza (Coaches Choice).
The fourth-ranked Bruins will be the No. 1 seed at the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday, March 18 and compete in the evening session at 6pm MT/5pm PT.
