Genis Selected Molten / MPSF Player of the Week

Men's Volleyball

Bruins return to the court on Apr. 31 at No. 5 Grand Canyon.

Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Guy Genis was selected as the Molten / Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Bruins to a pair of road MPSF wins at No. 10 Stanford.

Genis registered eight blocks in each of UCLA's 3-0 sweeps at Stanford this past weekend. He hit .600 for the week after having no errors on his 15 attacks over the course of the two matches. The two block solos in match one against the Cardinal equal his career-high. The seven block assists in match two is also a season-best mark. In addition, Genis' total of 10.0 points in match one tied his season-high in that category. UCLA dominated the nets with a 25.0 to 6.0 total blocks advantage over the Cardinal in the two contests. Genis has recorded 46 blocks over the last 11 matches and his blocks per set average of 1.38 for the season is currently second in the nation.

The Bruins (6-0 in MPSF) return to action in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) next week with a pair of road matches at No. 5 Grand Canyon (5-1) on Mar. 31 and April 1. The Antelopes are unbeaten at home this season with a perfect 15-0 record to date. UCLA also has MPSF series matches remaining on the schedule with No. 7 Pepperdine (4-2, Apr. 13 & 15) and No. 11 USC (1-5, Apr. 6 & 8). Stanford will be the site of the MPSF post-season tournament on Apr. 19-22 with the winner securing the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship to be held at George Mason University (Apr. 30 - May 6).
