LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's tennis team defeated Colorado 4-0 Friday afternoon in a Pac-12 match at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Kimmi Hance earned a straight-set clinching victory for the Bruins (7-5, 2-3 Pac-12). Fangran Tian and Sasha Vagramov added similar singles results. Hance and Tian logged two-win days, also proving victorious in doubles play. The Buffaloes dropped to 9-7 (0-4).
The nation's sixth-ranked pair of Hance and Elise Wagle raced out to a 6-0 win against Antonia Balzert and Aya El Sayed on the top doubles court, giving UCLA the advantage. Then, with both pairs of Bruins holding match points at 5-4, it was the freshman combination of Tian and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer provided the clinching victory. The tandem's first win, and second in as dual-match doubles tries for Lutkemeyer, came opposite Ellen Puzak and Betina Tokac.
Vagramov made quick work of her singles match on Court 5, doubling the Bruins' lead with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Tokac. With the victory, Vagramov has a career total of 100 across her singles and doubles contests.
No. 23 Tian was next off, running her winning streak to 10 by beating Balzert 6-1, 6-3 on the top court. Then, finishing seconds later was Hance, whose 6-2, 6-2 win versus Ventura sealed the final outcome. The clinching result represents the first of 2023 for Hance.
UCLA tries for back-to-back Pac-12 wins Saturday at 12 p.m. PT, when No. 59 Utah visits LATC.
