LOS ANGELES – No. 3 UCLA (16-4) rallied to defeat No. 4 Hawai'i (18-4) on Sunday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Center with a 13-8 win over the Rainbow Wahine in the Bruins' first home game in 71 days (since opening the season at home on Jan. 20.
Seven different Bruins got into the scoring column, led by graduate student Katrina Drake's game-high three goals. Four more Bruins scored multiple goals with Hannah Palmer, Sienna Green, Emma Lineback and Anna Pearson each scoring twice.
Redshirt senior Georgia Phillips got the start in the cage and went the distance, tallying a season-high-tying 12 saves and two steals while allowing eight goals (two penalties).
UCLA got off to a slow start, trailing 2-1 at the end of the first period and 5-3 in the second period.
But the Bruins scored six straight goals from the end of the second period to the final minute of the third to take control of the game.
Palmer's goal at the 4:32 mark of the third period gave UCLA its first lead of the game at 6-5. The Bruins led 9-6 by the end of the third quarter to put the game out of reach. UCLA won the fourth quarter 4-2 to provide the 13-8 final.
The Bruins return to action next week when they host Fresno State on Thursday, Apr. 6 at 12:00 p.m. PT.
