LOS ANGELES – On the eve of UCLA's first game of the 2023 regular season, senior defender Tommy Silva was named to the Preseason All-America Teams for both TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News.

Silva was cited on the First Team of TDS's Preseason Best XI, and was tabbed to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America Second Team.

The pair of honors add to what's been a publicity-heavy preseason for Silva. In the run-up to the new campaign, he was rated No. 6 in TopDrawerSoccer's Top 100 player rankings (the highest of any defender in the country), was selected to the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Watch List for defenders, and was named to the Pac-12 Preseason Best XI in a poll of league coaches.

Entering his fourth year as a starter with the Bruins, Silva is coming off back-to-back All-Pac-12 seasons. The Tucson, Ariz. native also earned First Team Academic All-America honors as a junior.

Last season, Silva paced the Bruins in assists (eight) while being selected to a national Team of the Week on two separate occasions. On the defensive end, he helped the Bruins limit their opponents to one goal or fewer in 10 consecutive games from Sept. 15 to Oct. 29, the program's longest streak in nearly 20 years.

Silva scored a career-high six goals in the fall 2021 season, which co-led the team and ranked fourth in the Pac-12 Conference. He notched two goals and three assists for seven points as a true freshman during the spring 2021 campaign, including a golden goal to defeat California in the team's season finale.

For his career, Silva has totaled nine goals and 15 assists for 33 points over 51 games (50 starts).
