BERLIN, Germany – UCLA Women's Basketball has landed in Germany!
After an overnight flight out of Dakar, Senegal, the Bruins have touched down in Berlin, Germany to start the next leg of their 2023 summer tour.
UCLA traveled to the eastern side of the German capital to visit a still-standing portion of the Berlin Wall; the Bruins walked and absorbed the living history of the Cold War as they took photos of and observed the graffiti art on the monument.
After the visit, the Bruins headed to a family-style Italian restaurant for lunch to fill up after a long night of travel. The meal included appetizers like fried arancini balls and crunchy sourdough bread topped with mozzarella, tomato confit, cherry tomatoes and pesto sauce before the main courses arrived. The Bruins tried pasta with truffle sauce, traditional spaghetti and tomato sauce, and a pesto pasta dish at the restaurant. The meal was completed with dessert – whipped cream and strawberries, and a yogurt ice cream!
The Bruins headed back to the hotel for some rest and relaxation before heading back out to dinner.
At the suggestion of redshirt-junior Emily Bessoir, many Bruins ordered an authentic wiener schnitzel dish for their final meal of the day. The pan-fried veal cutlets came out on top of a potato salad and were accompanied by sliced lemons and a cranberry sauce. Dessert included crème brûlée and a raspberry sorbet that capped a filling day on the Berlin food scene.
Tomorrow, the Bruins will play their second game of the foreign tour in Berlin. UCLA Women's Basketball takes on Alba Berlin at 6 p.m. local time / 9 a.m. PDT.
