Northridge, Calif. – No. 4 UCLA scored twice in the second half and shut out CSUN, 3-0, on a hot afternoon at Matador Soccer Field.
UCLA broke through with the game's first goal in the 40th minute when Bridgette Marin-Valencia stole a pass, dribbled forward and fired far post to beat CSUN goalkeeper Kennedy Williams, who had just entered the game a minute earlier due to an injury to starter Hayden Mauldin.
Reilyn Turner, who had been very active in the game with seven shots, got on the board in the 63rd minute, doubling UCLA's lead with a penalty kick. Turner drew a foul in the box on a goal-scoring opportunity and took the penalty kick herself, converting for her third goal of the season.
Freshman Taylor Cheatham put UCLA ahead 3-0 in the 75th minute, taking a through ball from America Frias, getting ahead of the defense and beating Williams for her first collegiate goal.
Goalkeepers Neeku Purcell and Faith Nguyen recorded the shutout, UCLA's fourth of the year.
UCLA improves to 5-1, while CSUN falls to 0-7-1. The Bruins will next host Pepperdine on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7pm in the team's final non-conference game.

The Bruins controlled possession for the majority of the game, outshooting CSUN 24-2 overall and 11-0 in the second half. CSUN's best chance of the game came with 15 minutes to play in the first half after they were fouled just outside the box, but Ashly Torres' free kick sailed over the goal.GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL UCLA!
