SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Freshman Sienna Green, sophomore Emma Lineback and graduate student Katrina Drake each scored a hat trick to lead the No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team (4-0) to a dominant 16-2 win over 11th-ranked UC San Diego (1-2) in the third game of the UCSB Winter Invite on Sunday morning at UCSB's Campus Pool.

A total of eight Bruins got into the scoring column in the victory with graduate student Ava Johnson and junior Anneliese Miller each adding two scores for the Bruins.

Junior Sydney Chiang got the start in the cage and had five saves while allowing two goals. Redshirt senior Georgia Phillips came on in relief in the second half and pitched a shutout while tallying a season-high-tying nine saves.
 
The Bruins opened up with a 4-2 lead in the first quarter. The Tritons trailed 3-2 after a score from the front court at the 1:09 mark of the opening period. But the Bruin defense held UCSD scoreless for the final 25:09 of the game to cruise to victory. Johnson scored the first goal of the game from two meters and then Green scored on a counter attack. Miller scored her first on a power play and senior Brooke Doten scored on a nice drive and finish to end the scoring in the first period.

UCLA won the second period 5-0, to take a 9-2 lead into the break. Green opened the scoring in the second quarter with her second goal of the game when she converted a penalty shot. Lineback scored her first of the contest on a counter and then Drake scored three goals in a row to complete her hat trick, which included a power play goal, a score from two meters, and then a score with 0:04 remaining on a 7-on-6 play.

The Bruins won the third quarter 4-0 to build a 13-2 lead heading into the final stanza. Lineback scored her second of the game on a strike from the front court to open the scoring in the third period. Freshman Lily Gess scored the first goal of her collegiate career from the front court with 3:36 to go in the third. Miller struck from the front court for her second goal of the game and Johnson worked a 7-on-6 play to perfection, scoring her second of the game at the buzzer.

UCLA won the fourth quarter, 3-0, to provide the 16-2 final. Johnson opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a goal from the front court to complete her hat trick. Freshman Taylor Smith scored her first of the game from the front court and then Lineback completed her hat trick with 0:02 remaining, converting on the Bruins' third-straight 7-on-6 play to end a period.
 
Courtney Okumura and Tania Frank each scored one goal to lead UC San Diego. UCSB did not provide goalie stats for UCSD.

The Bruins return to action later today when they complete the UCSB Winter Invite with the hosts, No. 19 UC Santa Barbara at 4:00 p.m. PT at UCSB's Campus Pool.

GAME NOTES: The Bruins scored the final 13 goals of the game …UCLA improved to 4-0 for the third straight year … this was the 38th meeting between UCLA and UC San Diego with the Bruins leading the series 35-3 … the Tritons won the first three games in the series (all in the Bruins' first year in 1995) but UCLA has now reeled off 35 straight wins … UCLA has now registered seven hat tricks in the first four games of the year.
