Women Lead, Men Third after Day One of Dr. Sander Invitational

NEW YORK โ UCLA Track and Field competed in the first of two days of the Dr. Sander Invitational hosted by Columbia University at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York, N.Y. on Friday. The Bruins boast two first-place finishes on the day: Camryn O'Bannon (men's long jump - ย 25'02") and Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck (women's 60m hurdles โ 8.27).

Through the first day of competition, the UCLA women's track and field athletes have amassed 50 points for first place; the Bruins lead the second-place South Carolina Gamecocks by two points after six of the 16 events received official scores.

The men's side sits in third place with 45 points after eight of the 16 weekend events have completed, trailing South Carolina (55 points) and UConn (53 points).

TRACK EVENT RESULTS

Eric Allen, Jr. placed first in his 60m sprint prelims race with a 6.72, good for ninth all-time for UCLA in indoor performances. Kaden Reynolds (6.86) and Willington Wright (6.90) finished seventh and eighth, respectively and qualified for finals in the 60m race. Reynolds placed third in the final race (6.82).

Three Bruins qualified in the women's 60m race: Makenzy Pierre-Webster (2nd - 7.53), Chinyere Okoro (4th โ 7.58), and Naomi Johnson (8th โ 7.63). Pierre-Webster (7.48) and Okoro (7.54) held second and fourth in the final, and Johnson improved to place sixth (7.57).

Ndjip-Nyemeck followed up her strong Bruin debut with another win in the women's 60m hurdles (1st, prelims โ 8.35; 1st, finals โ 8:27). Jada Jones placed second in the final with an 8.47.

FIELD EVENT RESULTS

Freshman Camryn O'Bannon finished with a 25'02" in the men's long jump, good for first in the event. Sydney Johnson placed seventh on the women's side, leaping 19'04" in the event.

Jalyn Jackson competed in the men's triple jump on Friday. Jackson's 49'07" secured second place for the Bruins in the event.

Natalie Ramirez (49'03.75") and Lyvante Su'emai (48'01.75") placed second and third, respectively, in the women's shot put. Michael Pinckney (5th โ 55'02") and Aidan Elbettar (6th โ 54'10") had solid performances in the men's shot put.

Hunter O'Brien (15'07") competed in the men's pole vault and finished fifth in the event.
