No. 8 UCLA Falls to No. 25 Colorado in Overtime, 70-73
January 27, 2023 | Women's Basketball
Boulder, Colo. – UCLA Women's Basketball (17-4, 6-3 Pac-12) dropped its Friday night matchup against Colorado (16-4, 6-2 Pac-12), 70-73. The Bruins had four players in double figures in the three-point overtime loss.
UCLA outrebounded the Buffs 45-35, and the Bruins held a 14-8 advantage on the offensive glass. Colorado led the way on points scored in the paint (42-28) and fast break points (19-9).
Londynn Jones had a team-high 14 points, followed by Emily Bessoir and Charisma Osborne with 12 points apiece. Gabriela Jaquez tallied 11 points on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting performance.
The nail-biter saw 15 lead changes and 13 ties in 45 minutes of gameplay. Neither team led by more than eight points, and the Buffs largest lead was just five points (4:44, Q3).
The Bruins led 19-13 after the first quarter and carried a five-point lead into halftime, battling with the Buffaloes throughout the first half. Jaquez led with seven through the first twenty minutes.
Colorado had its best quarter in the third, outscoring UCLA 25-18 in the period. In a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Bruins shot 4-for-14 FG. The Bruins' 13 points were good enough to tie the ballgame and send it to overtime; clutch free throw shooting from Charisma Osborne put the Bruins up one with 13 seconds on the clock. Colorado drew a foul and shot 1-for-2 from the line, and, with the ball and six seconds left, the Bruins had the last shot. Osborne drove her way into the lane and got a shot off in time but hit the back of the rim and missed the game-winning opportunity.
Osborne made the first shot of the overtime period with an open three on the left wing, but the Bruins would not convert another field goal for the rest of the game (1-for-5 FG in OT). Colorado sealed the victory after hitting a corner three with two seconds left on the clock. Kiki Rice attempted a last-second shot from distance but came up short.
