Lilly Reale Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist

UCLA junior defender Lilly Reale was selected as a semifinalist for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I women's soccer coaches.

Reale, the winner of the 2022 Honda Sport Award, is looking to become UCLA's first-ever MAC Hermann Trophy winner on the women's side. She already made history this season by becoming the first-ever women's soccer player to win Pac-12 Defender of the Year honors in back-to-back years, and she is also only the second player ever to win the award twice. The Hingham, Mass. native started and played in 17 games in 2023, leading the Bruins to 11 shutouts and a 0.63 goals against average. Under her leadership in the back, UCLA allowed an average of just 5.1 shots per game. Reale, a three-time first-team All-Pac-12 honoree, has won either a Pac-12 or NCAA title every season, capturing conference titles in 2021 and 2023 and earning College Cup Most Outstanding Defensive Player honors en route to the 2022 NCAA Championship.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Three women's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year's winners.
