2023 Pac-12 Women's Soccer Award-Winners

Bruins Dominate Pac-12 Women's Soccer Year-End Awards

November 07, 2023 | Women's Soccer

UCLA head coach Margueritte Aozasa and junior Lilly Realeย repeated as the Pac-12 Coach and Defender of the Year, respectively, and senior Reilyn Turner was selected the Forward of the Year as a record-tying total of 10 Bruins earned All-Pac-12 honors.
ย
Reale, Turner, graduate forward Ally Cook, sophomore midfielder Ally Lemos, and junior defender Quincy McMahon were selected to the All-Pac-12 first team. Sophomore midfielder Sofia Cook and junior defenders Ayo Oke and Jayden Perry received second-team acclaim. Graduate midfielder Sunshine Fontes and junior forward Lexi Wright were named to the third team. Additionally, forward Val Vargas received Pac-12 All-Freshman honors.
ย
Aozasa earned her second Pac-12 coaching honor in as many years after guiding second-ranked UCLA to the conference title with an unbeaten 10-0-1 Pac-12 record. Aozasa's Bruins, who are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak, compiled a 16-1-1 regular season record, with the third-best W-L-T percentage in the nation (0.917). UCLA ranks first in the Pac-12 in goals scored (52), shutouts (11), shots (374) and shots on goal (157). This is the seventh Pac-12 Coach of the Year honor bestowed upon a UCLA coach. Aozasa joins Stanford's Paul Ratcliffe as just the second Pac-12 coach to win Coach of the Year honors in back to back years.

Reale becomes the first ever to win Pac-12 Defender of the Year in consecutive years and is just the second player ever to win two career Defender of the Year awards, joining Stanford's Naomi Girma, who won in 2019 and 2021. The Hingham, Mass. native has started and played in 16 games, leading the Bruins to a conference-best 11 shutouts and a 0.61 goals against average. Under her leadership in the back, UCLA has allowed an average of just 5.2 shots per game. Reale, the 2022 Honda Award winner, has earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in each of her three years.

Turner is UCLA's first-ever Pac-12 Forward of the Year in the seven-year history of the award. The senior from Aliso Viejo, Calif., also earns her fourth career all-conference nod, having been named to the first team for the second-straight year. She was a second-team selection as a sophomore and a third-team honoree as a freshman, in addition to the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. This season, Turner leads the Bruins and ranks second in the Pac-12 in goals scored (10) and points (26). With 42 career goals and 15 assists, Turner is just one point away from becoming the sixth UCLA player to reach 100 career points. ย ย
ย
Ally Cook earns first-team honors for the first time in her career after being a third-team selection in each of the last two years. The Coto de Caza native has scored a career-high nine goals this season and has 19 points. She ranks fourth in the conference in goals and eighth in points. Over her career, she has totaled 31 goals and 72 points, ranking second among active UCLA players.ย
ย
Lemos elevated to first-team All-Pac-12 status after being a third-team honoree as a freshman a year ago. The Glendora, Calif. native has started every game of her UCLA career, entering the postseason with 43 games played and started. This season, she has scored two goals with two assists, all coming in Pac-12 play.

McMahon, from Carmel, Ind., received first-team honors for the second consecutive year. The Pac-12's assist leader with seven assists has contributed to 11 shutouts in 18 games started. She dominated the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week award this season, winning it a Pac-12 record four times, including an unprecedented three times in a row from Sept. 18-Oct. 2.ย  ย

Sofia Cook makes her first appearance on the All-Pac-12 team, earning second-team honors a year after being named to the All-Freshman team. Cook, who is from Huntington Beach, Calif., has played in 14 games and started nine, scoring one goal with two assists.
ย
In her first year at UCLA after transferring from California, Oke earns her second consecutive second-team honor. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native has started in all 18 games for the Bruins, contributing to 11 shutouts and scoring one goal with four assists.
ย
Perry, a junior from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., receives her first All-Pac-12 nod, being selected to the second team. Perry has started all 18 games for the Bruins and is one of four players to exceed 1400 minutes played. Along with contributing to 11 shutouts, she has also totaled career-highs in goals (three) and points (seven).

Fontes, from Pearl City, Hawaii, earns her second career All-Pac-12 honor with a third-team selection. The graduate midfielder was leading UCLA in scoring with four goals and nine points after nine games before she suffered a season-ending ACL injury. She led UCLA in scoring in 2022 with 11 goals and 30 points.
ย
With a third-team selection, Wright receives her first All-Pac-12 honor. The Carlsbad native ranks third on the team in scoring with six goals and 15 points. In conference action, her 13 points rank fourth amongst all players.
ย
Vargas is UCLA's lone all-freshman team selection. The freshman from Pico Rivera, Calif. has played in 15 games, making one start. She has scored two goals and two assists.
ย
UCLA's 10 all-conference awards ties the record set by the 2018 Stanford team.
