KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UCLA men's basketball players Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Tyger Campbell have secured NABC All-District 19 honors, as announced on Tuesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Jaquez Jr. has been named a first-team All-District 19 selection, while Campbell was been named to the second team.
In addition, Bruins' head coach Mick Cronin has been named the NABC's All-District 19 Coach of the Year for the second time in four seasons. He was also honored as the All-District Coach of the Year after the 2019-20 season.
This marks the third consecutive year in which Campbell has secured NABC All-District 19 recognition. He was honored as a first-team selection as a sophomore in 2020-21. Last season (and this season) he was recognized as a second-team honoree.
Jaquez Jr. has earned first-team distinction this season after having been named a second-team all-district pick as a junior in 2021-22.
Both Jaquez Jr. and Campbell were honored last week as first-team All-Pac-12 Conference selections. The senior duo has been instrumental in leading UCLA (29-5) to the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament's West Region, as the Bruins won the Pac-12 Conference's regular-season title for the first time since 2013. Last week, UCLA advanced to the championship contest of the Pac-12 Tournament, losing to second-seeded Arizona by a 61-59 margin.
Jaquez Jr. enters the NCAA Tournament having averaged team-highs in scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg). He is one of nine players in school history to rank among the top 15 in career scoring (1,732 points) and career rebounding (815 rebounds).
Campbell ranks No. 1 among all Pac-12 players in assist-turnover ratio (2.9 to 1) and No. 4 in assists per game (4.7). He enters the NCAA Tournament having registered 13.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in all 34 games. In the Bruins' three Pac-12 Tournament contests last week, Campbell averaged 20.7 points, 3.0 rebound and 5.0 assists per game.
Joining Jaquez Jr. as first-team all-district honorees are Arizona's Oumar Ballo and Azuolas Tubelis, Utah's Branden Carlson and USC's Boogie Ellis. The other four second-team selections, aside from UCLA's Campbell, include Arizona State's Desmond Cambridge Jr., Oregon's N'Faly Dante, Washington State's Mouhamed Gueye and USC's Drew Peterson.
The No. 2-seed Bruins (29-5) will return to action in the NCAA Tournament against No. 15-seed UNC Asheville (27-7) on Thursday, March 16. Game time at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (PT). UCLA's game against UNC Asheville will be nationally televised on truTV.
