March 05, 2023 | Gymnastics

LOS ANGELES- Jordan Chiles scored a perfect 10 on bars and recorded a career-high of 39.875 in the all-around to lead the No. 5 UCLA Bruins to their first 198 team score of the season in a 198.175-196.825 win over No. 21 Stanford in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Sunday afternoon. UCLA's team score was boosted by a 49.725 on uneven bars, the third-highest bars score in school history.

Chiles, an Olympic silver medalist and three-time World medalist, picked up her third consecutive all-around title and added individual event wins on uneven bars (10.0), balance beam (9.975) and floor exercise (9.975). Bruin junior Chae Campbell also added a perfect score of her own, winning vault with a 9.950 on her 9.950-start valued Yurchenko full vault. The perfect mark was the fourth of Campbell's career.

The Bruins (7-4-2, 4-1-2 in the Pac-12) took a slight lead over Stanford after the first rotation, scoring 49.350 on vault. Campbell's perfect score of 9.950 led the way, followed by Chiles' 9.925 and freshman Selena Harris' score of 9.850. The Bruins totaled five scores of 9.800 or higher on the event. Stanford recorded a 49.300 on uneven bars, led by Chloe Widner's 9.950 and Brenna Neault's 9.900.

UCLA pulled away in the second rotation, however, recording the second-highest bars score in the nation this year, a 49.725. The score was UCLA's highest on bars since also totaling 49.725 on 2017. The Bruins hit five consecutive 9.9+ routines, beginning with Kalyany Steele's season-best 9.900, followed by Ana Padruariu's career-high 9.950. Harris matched Padurariu's mark with a 9.950 of her own, and Margzetta Frazier added a 9.925. Chiles, competing in the anchor spot for the first time this season, earned her first perfect 10 score on bars this season and the second of her career, hitting all four of her release moves and sticking her full-twisting double back dismount. The Bruins' team score extended their .050 lead to 0.65 after the Cardinal totaled 49.125 on vault. UCLA bested Stanford again in the third rotation, scoring 49.425 on beam to the Cardinal's 49.250 on floor. Emily Lee led off with a 9.800, followed by freshman Ciena Alipio's 9.825. Padurariu picked up a 9.775 before Chiles' event-winning and career-high score of 9.975. Chiles stuck her difficult double pike dismount for the second meet in a row. Harris and Emma Malabuyo finished up the rotation with 9.925 and 9.900, respectively. Needing to score 49.500 on floor exercise to reach the 198 mark, the Bruins did that and more, scoring 49.675. Lee led off her third event of the day with a career-high-tying 9.900. Malabuyo scored her season high and tied her career best with a score of 9.950. Harris earned a 9.900, and Frazier scored 9.825. Chiles picked up her second 9.975 of the day to win the event, and Campbell rounded out the rotation with a 9.950, tying her season high. UCLA also had strong exhibition performances, with Brooklyn Moors making her return to competition with a 9.875 on floor exercise, and Mia Erdoes scoring 9.800 on bars and 9.700 on beam.

The Bruins will conclude the regular season with a home dual meet on Saturday, Mar. 11 against Iowa State at 12pm. Tickets are on sale now at uclabruins.com/tickets.
