April 01, 2023 | Men's Volleyball
The No. 2 ranked UCLA men's volleyball team secured its 16th sweep of the season at No. 5 Grand Canyon (21-4, 6-4) on Saturday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match in Phoenix. Scores of the match were 30-28, 25-21, 25-19.
The Bruins improve to 23-2 overall and 8-0 in MPSF action. It is the most wins in a season by a Bruin team since it posted a 26-8 record in 2018 on its way to playing in the national championship match. The last time UCLA had more than 16 match sweeps in a campaign was in 2012 when it racked up 17 wins by a 3-0 margin.
Ido David led three Bruins in double-digit kills with 13. Alex Knight and Ethan Champlin each added 10 kills. UCLA hit at least .400 for the 14th time this season after achieving a .448 swing rate against the Antelopes. Each team recorded two aces and the Bruins enjoyed an 8.0 to 4.0 advantage in total blocks. UCLA will return home for a Thursday matchup against No. 11 USC (8-13, 1-7) at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom which will be broadcast by the Pac-12 Network.
