Distance Runners, High Jumpers Shine at 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational

LOS ANGELES โ€“ UCLA Track and Field competed in a distance-heavy weekend at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., hosted by Azusa Pacific University. The Bruins had strong showings in the men's steeplechase and both 1500m and 5000m runs.

Peter Herold started things off on Thursday, April 13, in the 3000m steeplechase. Running in section one, the junior crossed in 8:49.74. His finish was good for 12th place in a field of more than 130 competitors.

Jake Parker followed up with a strong run in the men's 5000m Open A division, running a 14:17.38 to place 8th in the race. Mia Kane ran extremely well on the women's side, finishing in 16:19.02 for fourth place in the women's Open A section. Kane claims eighth place all-time for the Bruins with her new PR.

Ronan McMahon-Staggs claims second all-time in the men's 1500m, improving on his previous top-10 mark from the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival. The junior ran a 3:39.32 in the event to place 19th in a field of 164 racers.

The women's side competed hard in both 800m races; Kaho Cichon (2:10.66) placed sixth in the open division that saw 144 runners, and Rose Pittman (2:06.39) placed 23rd in a field of 129.

Bruin high jumpers Amber Jackson and Cheyenne Roberts placed well for UCLA in their sections of the event. Jackson cleared 1.67m (5-05.75) to place fifth in the High Jump A event, and Roberts recorded a mark of 1.52m (4-11.75) to place second in High Jump C.
