Men's Tennis Shuts Out UC San Diego for Third Win in Row

April 17, 2023 | Men's Tennis

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA men's tennis team kicked off the final week of its regular season Monday with a 4-0 victory against UC San Diego at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The shutout win represents the Bruins' third in four days.

UCLA (12-7, 3-3 Pac-12) did not drop a set on the afternoon, with Giacomo Revelli ultimately clinching the result. Timothy Li and Aadarsh Tripathi were also triumphant on the singles courts. The Bruins gave up just two total games to the Tritons (7-16, 0-4 Big West) in doubles play.

Playing just the second dual-match doubles contest of his career, Gianluca Ballotta of UCLA teamed with Patrick Zahraj to overpower William Lan and Eric Silberman in a 6-0 decision on Court 2. Ballotta's first career doubles victory was followed by fellow freshman Azuma Visaya's second. First-year Bruins Tripathi and Visaya, making their debut as a tandem, downed Joseph Teh and Diogo Tinoco 6-2 on Court 3 to clinch the initial point.

Tripathi bested Tinoco in singles play, as well, notching a 6-2, 6-1 win on Court 3. Visaya's 6-3 first set was the only one in which UCSD tallied more than two games.

Next to finish was Timothy Li, whose 6-1, 6-1 victory opposite Teh on Court 6 was his fourth in a row. Each of the four wins since April 8 came in straight sets.

Revelli notched his third consecutive singles victory and second clincher of the campaign. He knocked off Phillip Lan 6-2, 6-0 on Court 2. Zahraj (6-1, 5-4 on Court 1) and Ballotta (6-1, 4-3 on Court 5) were closing in on wins of their own.

The Bruins next visit crosstown rival No. 10 USC's David X. Marks Tennis Stadium Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT. UCLA's regular-season finale is Saturday against Utah at Los Angeles Tennis Center, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
