Varsity Four Crews Lead UCLA at Big Ten Invitational in Florida

SARASOTA, Fla. – The UCLA women's rowing team concluded races at the two-day Big Ten Invitational on Saturday morning, as the two varsity four crews recorded top-two finishes.
UCLA's varsity four boat (V4+) registered the Bruins' best finish on Saturday morning, finishing in first place in its four-boat race. The Bruins (7:12.66) crossed the finish line ahead of Alabama (7:21.23), Wisconsin (7:29.838) and Minnesota (7:37.562).
The Bruins' second varsity four (2V4+) recorded a second-place finish, also competing against Alabama, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The 2V4+ crew logged a final racing time of 7:30.154, crossing the finish line just six seconds behind first-place Alabama (7:24.109). Rounding out the remaining two competitors were Wisconsin (7:34.198) and Minnesota (7:53.908).
UCLA's varsity eight crew (V8+) finished in fourth place, while the Bruins' second varsity eight logged a third-place finish. The Bruins' V8+ boat finished fourth in a crowded field that was separated by just 7.2 seconds. Alabama won the race in a total time of 6:22.746, followed by second-place Wisconsin (6:23.215), third-place Minnesota (6:29.175) and UCLA (6:30.006).
UCLA's 2V8+ posted a final time of 6:40.495, finishing its morning race just 3.45 seconds behind second-place competitor Wisconsin (6:37.045). Alabama won the 2V8+ race with a time of 6:35.085. Wisconsin and UCLA finished ahead of Minnesota (6:44.503).
In all, the Bruins registered five first-place finishes and one second-place result in 12 races at the Big Ten Invitational over the weekend (Friday's results are available here). Racing took place on Friday, April 7 and on Saturday, April 8.
The UCLA women's rowing team will be back in action against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, April 22. The dual-meet regatta will take place on Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey, the home to both the Bruins and to LMU. Racing schedules will be finalized at a later date.
