Andrew Rowan Named to OTB Freshman All-America Team

Andrew Rowan was named to the 2023 Off the Block Men's Volleyball Freshman All-America Team on Tuesday. Rowan set UCLA to the nation's highest hitting percentage (.382) this season and to the 2023 NCAA Men's Collegiate Volleyball Championship. The OTB Freshman All-America Team was chosen by a voting committee of more than 30 men's volleyball coaches and volleyball media.
Rowan was named AVCA Newcomer of the Year and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Year for 2023. He was also a first-team AVCA All-America selection as well as a first-team All-MPSF pick. He ranked tied for 12th in the nation in aces per set average (0.46) and topped all MPSF players with 50 service aces on the year. Rowan fired off at least one ace in 20 of the last 22 matches this season and recorded 17 matches with multiple aces. He was named the AVCA National Player of the Week after leading UCLA to a pair of regular season victories over Long Beach State, including posting a season-high .551 attack percentage in one win over the Beach.
Rowan received the most votes of all the candidates from the nationwide committee of men's volleyball coaches and media. This is the fourth straight season in which a Bruin has been named to Off the Block's Freshman All-America Team --- 2022: Guy Genis; 2021: Ethan Champlin; 2020: Mads Kyed Jensen and Cole Ketrzynski.
A player named to the Freshman All-America Team had to be listed among the top vote-getters and appear on at least one-fourth of all the fully submitted voting ballots while being listed as a freshman or redshirt freshman on the active roster for a 2023 NCAA Div. I-II men's volleyball team.
