
Eight Bruins Compete at NBA Summer League

The UCLA men's basketball program had eight former players in action at the NBA Summer League this month, competing in games in Sacramento, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
The bulk of the NBA Summer League took place in Las Vegas, starting on Friday, July 7. Four former UCLA players (Amari Bailey, Tyger Campbell, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and David Singleton) were in action at the summer league for the first time in their career, while four players were making return appearances (Jules Bernard, Moses Brown, Johnny Juzang and Peyton Watson).
Below is a short description of each former player's contributions in this year's NBA Summer League (alphabetical order).
Amari Bailey – Charlotte Hornets
Bailey, a second-round draft selection by Charlotte in 2023, averaged 9.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in seven games. He averaged 16.5 minutes per contest with Charlotte and shot 43.1 percent from the field (25-for-58). Bailey was 3-for-8 from 3-point range (37.5 percent) and was 12-for-18 at the free throw line (66.7 percent). He scored a single-game-best 17 points in two contests.
Jules Bernard – Washington Wizards
Bernard competed in the NBA's G League in 2022-23 and returned to the NBA Summer League with Washington. He averaged 8.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in four games. Bernard shot 47.6 percent from the field and was 5-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc (62.5 percent). He scored a single-game-best 17 points in his final outing on Saturday, July 15.
Moses Brown – Toronto Raptors
Brown has competed in the NBA for the past four seasons and returned to the NBA Summer League with Toronto. He averaged 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in five contests (five starts). Brown shot 68.0 percent from the field (17-for-25) and 70.8 percent at the free throw line (17-for-24). He totaled at least 10 points in three contests, including a single-game-best 14 points in his first outing on July 7.
Tyger Campbell – Orlando Magic
Campbell competed in three games with Orlando, averaging 7.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest. He averaged 16.8 minutes per game and shot 31.6 percent from the field. Campbell shot 50.0 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, connecting on 4 of 8 long-range attempts. He shot 83.3 percent at the free throw line (5-for-6).
Jaime Jaquez Jr. – Miami Heat
Jaquez Jr., a first-round draft pick by Miami in 2023, competed in two contests with the Heat. He averaged 13.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in those two games and shot 42.9 percent from the field. Jaquez Jr. scored a team-high 22 points and shot 8-for-15 in his NBA Summer League debut in Sacramento on Monday, July 3.
Johnny Juzang – Utah Jazz
Juzang returned to the NBA Summer League with Utah after having spent the 2022-23 season with the organization. He averaged 15.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in six contests (one start), shooting 50.7 percent from the field. Juzang knocked down 51.5 percent of his 3-point attempts (17-for-33) and shot 62.5 percent at the free throw stripe (10-for-16). He totaled a single-game-best 26 points in a win on Monday, July 10, and followed with a 24-point effort in his final contest on Friday, July 14.
David Singleton – Atlanta Hawks
Singleton averaged 4.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in two games with Atlanta. He shot 3-for-6 from the field and was 2-for-3 from 3-point range, with all three 3-point attempts taking place in an eight-point effort on Sunday, July 16.
Peyton Watson – Denver Nuggets
Watson, who was part of Denver's NBA Championship-winning team in 2022-23, averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in two games with the Nuggets. He shot 52.2 percent from the field and 81.3 percent at the free throw line (13-for-16). Watson scored 23 points and added five rebounds in his first game with Denver on Friday, July 7.
In addition, recent NBA Draft selection Jaylen Clark was listed on the Minnesota Timberwolves' summer league roster. Clark did not compete (recovering from injury).
