Women's Rowing Welcomes Maddie Perrett as Assistant Coach

The UCLA women's rowing program has added Maddie Perrett as an assistant coach, as announced on Friday by head coach Previn Chandraratna.

Perrett has arrived in Westwood after having served as an assistant coach for the past season at George Washington University (Washington, D.C.). She rowed for four seasons at Ohio State University from 2016-20 and will begin her fourth year as a collegiate rowing coach this fall.

"With a podium-level pedigree and the resilience required to do the hard work of program building, Maddie truly aligns with our program's identity and values. She has substantial Big Ten Conference exposure, both as a student-athlete and as a coach, and she will be an invaluable addition as we prepare to make the transition to the Big Ten."

Last season at George Washington, Perrett helped the women's rowing program to its first team championship at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. In addition, George Washington earned its first-ever team entry to the NCAA Championships. She primarily worked with the George Washington walk-ons and assisted with all recruiting efforts.

Prior to her time in Washington D.C., Perrett worked in a volunteer coach capacity with her alma mater's rowing program at Ohio State (in 2020-21 and 2021-22). While coaching in Columbus, Ohio, she helped guide the Buckeyes' third varsity four crew to a second-place finish at the 2022 Big Ten Championship, improving a spot from the boat's original seed.

Perrett was a four-year rowing letterwinner at Ohio State, graduating in 2020. She helped lead Ohio State's program to two Big Ten Conference titles during her time in Columbus. She was a part of the Buckeyes' second varsity eight boat that finished in the top 10 at three straight NCAA Championships. Ohio State's second varsity eight crew finished fourth in 2017 and fifth in 2019.

In addition to her collegiate rowing experience, Perrett was a member of the USRowing U23 National Team in 2019. She won a bronze medal in the women's eight at the U23 World Rowing Championship.

Perrett earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Ohio State and was honored as a "scholar-athlete" all four years in college.

The Bruins' coaching staff for the upcoming season will include Anna Thomson, Jake Power, Marija Medelinskaite and Maddie Perrett, in addition to head coach Previn Chandraratna. Thomson will enter her sixth season with UCLA's program in 2023-24. Power has spent the past two years in UCLA's rowing program, while Medelinskaite joined the Bruins' coaching staff one year ago. Chandraratna will enter his third season as the Bruins' head coach and his ninth year on UCLA's coaching staff.
