WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The UCLA men's golf team finished in a tie for third at 9-under 843 at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club on Wednesday. The Bruins shot a 2-under 280 in the third round.
UCLA held the lead over the 13-team field several moments throughout the final day, but Ohio State eventually won the title with a score of 13-under 839. Buckeye Neal Shipley won individual medal honors at 12-under (69-67-65).
UCLA has shot 9-under or better in three of its last four tournaments.
Junior Omar Morales and freshman Luke Powell were the Bruins' top two finishers with each securing their fourth top-10 placement of the season. Morales placed eighth at 6-under (70-68-69) and Powell tied for ninth at 5-under (67-69-72).
Pablo Ereño finished in the top 20, tying for 13th at 3-under (73-70-67). Ereño shot his lowest round of the season on day three with a 4-under 67.
Freshmen Luciano Conlan and Alex Papayoanou rounded out the UCLA lineup in a tie for 53rd at 8-over.
The Bruins travel to Hawaii next week for the Amer Ari Invitational, beginning Thursday, Feb. 8. The tournament will be held at Mauna Lani Golf Course in Hilo, Hawaii.
