BELEM, BRAZIL – Senior Angela Dugalić and sophomore Lina Sontag have punched their tickets to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Sontag joined Germany for the FIBA Women' Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 and Dugalić represented Serbia at the weekend competition in Brazil. The Germans collected two wins in three games, besting Serbia 73-66 on Thursday, Feb. 8, and host Brazil 73-71 on Sunday. Sontag appeared in Saturday's game against Australia; the sophomore played 19 and a half minutes in the effort. The Berlin native scored a three, grabbed a pair of boards and tallied two steals against the Aussies.
Germany's women's basketball team qualifies for the Olympic games for the first time in its history.
Dugalić and the Serbian national team went 1-2 on the weekend, but defeated the Brazilian squad on day two of competition – Brazil went winless in the tournament, so they were eliminated from Olympic contention. Serbia, as a result, secured a spot in Paris with its third-place finish at the tournament.
The UCLA senior averaged 7.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG and 1.0 APG in three appearances with the Serbian national team; Dugalić played 24.5 minutes per contest and shot .400 from beyond the arc (4-for-10 3FG).
Both Bruins are anticipated to return ahead of Friday's matchup against No. 11 Oregon State in Corvallis; UCLA travels to the Beaver State for a pair of Pac-12 games this weekend.
