LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Swimming and Diving team fell to Stanford 127-111 on Friday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bruins earned six event wins throughout the meet.
UCLA (5-2, 3-2 Pac-12) opened the meet in strong fashion, winning the 200 yard medley relay. The crew of Fay Lustria, Eva Carlson, Joanie Cash and Brooke Schaffer earned the win in 1:39.55.
In the second event of the day the Bruins took second and third in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Taylor Schaffer placed second in 10:35.14, while Beril Bocekler took third in 10:42.78.
Brooke Schaffer tallied her second win of the day in the 50 yd. freestyle. The graduate student earned the win convincingly in 22.85, with the next-best finisher touching the wall in 23.13.
After Stanford (6-0, 4-0 Pac-12) won the 400 yd. IM, the Bruins responded with a 1-2 finish in the 100 yd. butterfly. Graduate student Aislinn Walsh took the top spot in 54.35, with Joanie Cash finishing right behind her in 54.38 for UCLA.
Over on the dive side the Bruins dominated both the 1M and 3M dive. In the 1M competition, the trio of Eden Cheng, Savana Trueb, and Zoe Jespersgaard took the top three spots in the event. Chang won in 277.00, Trueb came in second in 267.10, while Jespersgaard finished right behind her in 266.25.
As for the 3M dive the same three Bruins took the top three spots on the podium. Jespersgaard took the crown with a score of 294.85, with Cheng finishing right behind her with a score of 293.50, and Trueb rounded out the top three with a 254.05.
Back in the pool, Brooke Schaffer earned her second individual event win and her third overall win of the day, taking the 100 yd. free in 49.60.
Freshman Amy Zhang followed Schaffer with a bronze in the 100 yd. backstroke, finishing in 54.62.
The meet would come down to the final event, the 200 yard free relay, to find a winner on Friday afternoon. In the event Stanford took the win in 1:30.38, with the Bruins' 'A' team of Schaffer, Wright, Ana Jih-Schiff, and Sarah Bennetts placing second in 1:32.02.
