FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 20-ranked UCLA baseball team absorbed a seven-inning 13-3 loss to No. 5 TCU on Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

The run-rule victory completed a weekend sweep of the Bruins (3-3) by the host Horned Frogs (7-0).

TCU jumped out to a big lead early after batting around in a five-inning first inning and never looked back. The Horned Frogs moved ahead 7-0 after a two-spot in the second, and moved into run-rule territory with another five-run frame in the sixth.

The Bruins were led on offense by junior shortstop Cody Schrier, who went 2-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs. Graduate catcher Quintt Landis added a pair of singles – his first multi-hit game as a Bruin – and a run scored.

The game largely hinged on the first inning, as the Bruins couldn't capitalize on a prime scoring opportunity before TCU responded with the go-ahead crooked number in the bottom half.

UCLA got the first three batters of the game aboard – via two walks and an error – to load the bases with nobody out. However, TCU starter Zack Morris came back with a strikeout of the next batter, and then induced an inning-ending double play to get out of the frame undamaged.

Leadoff man Peyton Chatagnier then led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer, and the Horned Frogs went on to string together five more hits for four runs during the inning.

Chatagnier (3-5, two runs) and catcher Karson Bowen (3-3, HR, five RBIs) had the biggest days offensively for TCU.

The Bruins return home for a five-game week, starting on Tuesday against Nevada at 5 p.m. PT.
