UCLA accomplished a near-sweep of the Pac-12 Gymnastics weekly awards, winning three of the four after a season-best performance Sunday in a 198.075-196.525 win over Arizona. Selena Harris was named the Gymnast of the Week, Nya Reed earned Specialist of the Week honors, and Katelyn Rosen repeated as the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
Harris captured her first career Gymnast of the Week distinction after dominating the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week category a year ago with a conference record-tying six wins. The sophomore from Las Vegas won the all-around in the Arizona meet with a career-high 39.775, scored meet-winning and career-high 9.975s on balance beam and floor exercise, won the uneven bars with a season-best 9.950, and placed second on vault with a 9.875. Harris' all-around score moved her into No. 5 in this week's all-around rankings and also put her into UCLA's all-time Top 10 for all-around scores. Her scores contributed to UCLA's season-best team score of 198.075 and to team season-high totals on bars (49.425), beam (49.525) and floor (49.750).
Reed claims her first-ever Pac-12 award as the Specialist of the Week. The Florida graduate transfer from Fort Washington, Md. was the SEC Specialist of the Week four times in her career. Reed won both events she competed against Arizona, scoring season-highs of 9.950 on vault and 9.975 on floor. The two wins were her first as a Bruin. In the national rankings, Reed moved up to No. 9 on floor with a season average of 9.925. She has scored 9.9 or higher on all five floor routines this year.
Rosen won Freshman/Newcomer of the Week for the second-straight week after improving her all-around score to 39.500 in the Arizona meet, the fourth-highest all-around total by any freshman this year. The Boerne, Texas native also set new career-bests on uneven bars with a 9.925 and on floor exercise with a 9.950. She also added a 9.875 on vault. On the day, she earned three second-place finishes (all-around, vault and bars) and was third on floor.
Joining the Bruins as Pac-12 weekly award-winners were Arizona State's Emily White, who captured the Coaches' Choice award.
No. 8 UCLA will next compete on Friday, Feb. 9 at 8pm against No. 18 Oregon State in Corvallis.
